It is a historic coastal town in Tamil Nadu famous for its amazing rock-cut temples & monuments which are of 7^th & 8^th centuries. It is also considered as World Heritage Site for its ancient architecture, beautiful beaches & intricate stone craving.

It is a beautiful city with vast casuarinas trees, silvery sandy beach, classical handmade crafts & mesmerising ancient architecture. It has the most famous monument, Shore Temple which is made of granite in 8^th century CE.
